Is it curiosity, fear of the unknown, or a sort of mystique that has people asking …
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind everyone has already experienced, many, many times.
Have you ever been totally absorbed while reading a book or cooking or watching a movie? Been driving down a road and missed a turn or thought I don’t remember going past ……….(this is often called highway hypnosis)
Did you zone out to the point where you didn’t notice what else was going on around you?
If so, you have experienced a type of trancelike state or focused attention that’s similar to what happens to you during hypnosis.
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. When you’re in trance:
- You’re relaxed
- Your attention is more focused
- You’re more responsive
Hypnosis is not sleep
• Myth: When you’re under hypnosis, you surrender your free will.
• Reality: Hypnosis is a heightened state of concentration and focused attention.
• Myth: Under hypnosis, you lose consciousness and have amnesia.
• Reality: Most people remember everything that occurs under hypnosis.
• Myth: You can be put into hypnosis without your consent.
• Reality: Successful hypnosis depends on your willingness to experience it.
• Myth: When you’re under hypnosis, the hypnotherapist controls you.
• Reality: You do hypnosis voluntarily for yourself. A hypnotherapist only serves as a knowledgeable guide or facilitator.
The hypnotic state is an optimum state for making changes in your life. You can set aside limiting beliefs that may have been preventing you from moving toward a more healthy, and happy you.
So now you know that you can be hypnotised!
You have done it literally thousands of times. You did it yourself when you were daydreaming and missed that turn (self-hypnosis), you have been hypnotised when you enjoyed a television program (being hypnotised by someone else), and you have followed hypnotic and post-hypnotic suggestions when you preferred some brand name that you saw repeatedly on television (hypnotic compounding of suggestion).
Now let’s use hypnosis to make your life better.
A variety of hypnotic techniques exists. At The Hypnosis Centre for Services and Training we practice 5-PATH© and 7th Path Self-Hypnosis®
Hypnotherapists, like other health care professionals, have their way of doing things, but there are common elements:
- A typical session lasts from 60 to 90 minutes.
- Just about any hypnotist can guide you into hypnosis.
But that’s where the similarities between hypnotists end. All hypnosis sessions are not the same. In order to receive long lasting and even permanent results you must choose a hypnotist that uses techniques to remove the true cause of the problem(read more about 5-PATH©).
- The number of sessions can range from one to a series of several.
- You generally bring yourself out of hypnosis at the end of a session.
- You can usually resume your daily activities immediately after a session.

Just a wonderful quote that appeared on my desk with no identified author says it all…………..All the hypnosis in the world cannot force you to face your hurts & fears. I can guide you to them…. but it is you that needs to do the work of re-uncovering the emotional hurt and get it’s toxicity out of your system. Meds neutralize and desensitize… hypnosis can help you to release and dissolve that what still hurts you. Successful people are those that do not turn away… or excuse it away… or fear their hurdles in life….. but climb over/through their challenge…. and move to the other side of it. And when it is on your backside…. I assure you that hurt will change 100% for you. Because you change. And you allow yourself to know the gains, the skills, the wisdom from having had it, gone through it and released it into your past. We are the sum total of our past. Hypnosis allows you to view your issue as part of your foundation that made you stronger, successful and you grow free.
